Gisela Zimmermann is an intense surface-worrier, a segmenter of planes and no wonder: her paintings are bold experiments in the structuring of space without using the regular emphasizing the traditional methodologies applied to the surface. Using acrylic paint applied so as to signal the greatest amount of surface tension spread out against the pictorial planes, the artist’s paintings are ethereally vibrant. In its place she has made as the theme of her work an investigation of the underpinnings, the structural support surfaces of her pictorial spaces.

The artistic activity of Gisela Zimmermann was influenced, in the course of the years, by different Masters, who now find their works in the art history books ; among these I remember Franz Marc, that attaches to the color, a key role, in his painting. As Marc says "Blue is the male principle and spiritual. Yellow is the feminine principle, friendly, cheerful and sensual. The red, brutal and heavy, must be fought and overtaken by two others". In Franz Marc, thus prevails, the conception of a world extremely colorful. The painting of Zimmermann, is also influenced by Georgia O'Keeffe: her creations of years "Ten" are characterized by a lyrical abstraction, created by harmonious lines, figures and colors; these works, mainly series of illustrations of charcoal and watercolours, are among the most innovative of all art of the United States period. Finally, in the painting of Gisela Zimmermann, you note a close correlation with some of the works of the viennese Friedensreich Hundertwasser, great architect of the color, which described himself "doctor of architecture".

Die Künstlerin Gisela Zimmermann, geboren in Augsburg, lebt und arbeitet sei vielen Jahren vor allem als Malerin in der Schweiz. Die Inspirationen für ihre Arbeiten holt sie sich aus der Natur. Landschaften und fremde Länder und Kulturen interessieren die Künstlerin. Sie experimentiert immer wieder gerne mit Formen und Farben – insbesondere stark leuchtenden Farben. Gisela Zimmermann ist zuallererst eine spontane Künstlerin, die gewissermaßen aus dem Bauch heraus malt und somit ihre Autonomie als kreativ Tätige unterstreicht. Ihr Werk ist eindeutig der abstrakten Kunst – teilweise mehr und mehr dem Informell – zuzuordnen.
